Morning departure from SJC showing the new terminal that Southwest is currently occupying.

N770BB departing Burbank.

I caught this privately owned 757 lifting off runway 15 at Burbank (KBUR). One of the nice things about privately owned aircraft is how clean they’re kept. You can see the reflection of the runway in the fuselage.

At San Jose we get a good mix of commercial and GA aircraft. The control tower folks are very accommodating when it comes to GA pilots practicing their takeoffs, approaches, and landings. In this shot things just happened to line up just right and I got both types of aircraft in the same shot.

This is one of Southwest’s older liveries. Southwest is based in Dallas Tx and they love to show it. Y’all come back now ya’hear.

Horizon’s 25 anniversary livery.

This is one of my favorite liveries. The gradient on the fuselage, the small bits of color sprinkled throughout all bring it together. I can’t imagine how complicated it was to paint.

Southwest’s “classic” livery.

The evening light really makes this plane come alive.

Southwest planes are a a pleasure to shoot. The airline has so many liveries and special nose art aircraft. It’s like collecting baseball cards. The level of detail is just astonishing.

N309AS taking off in the evening.

This was a difficult shot to get with the slow shutter speed. I got lucky and tracked the plane fine. I’m very happy with how it turned out.

UPS 757 with Mt Hamilton.

For my opening post I’d like to present one of my favorite photos to date. Just like in Real Estate, photography can be about location, location, location. I happened to be standing in the right spot to catch this UPS 757 climbing out with the Lick Observatory on Mt. Hamilton in the background. It was also shot in the evening with the sun low in the sky making for almost ideal lighting conditions.
